Saudi Arabia detains Israeli spy vulture

Saudi Arabia detained an Israeli griffon vulture which was caught in the desert city of Hyaal days ago for allegedly involving in espionage.


The huge griffon vulture is suspected of being a Mossad spy sent by Israel on a mission to gather information.

The detained vulture was carrying a GPS transmitter bearing the name of Tel Aviv University.

Griffon vultures are 93–110 cm long with a 230–269 cm wingspan, and it weighs between 6 and 13 kg.

Israeli officials have denied the allegations, and raised concern over the punishment which may be given to the bird under Saudi justice system.

An Israeli official said the purpose of the transmitter was to identify the bird’s whereabouts, speed and his altitude, to understand the endangered species’ behavior.

Israeli officials have said that they hope the bird would be released.

Earlier, Egypt has alleged that a series of shark attacks in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh could have been the result of a plot carried out by Mossad, Israeli foreign intelligence agency.

The series of shark attacks in the Red Sea has killed a German woman and injured several other swimmers.
