The Palestine Papers (1600 secret
documents released by al-jazeera news channel) confirm deep betrayal by
Palestinian Authority (PA) over what they have been entrusted with. The
secret documents have revealed that PA consists of double-crossers and
Zionist collaborators who are prepared to sell Palestinian rights.
In their so called peace negotiations
with Israel, the PA told the Zionists that the 1967 borders were
negotiable and Israel could keep the whole of Jerusalem. Israel also
could annex all illegal Jewish settlements and Palestinians would
abandon the right of return. This is so because the influx of 6 million
Palestinian refugees would undermine the Jewish character of Israel.
There was no concession the PA was not
prepared to make provided they are allowed to retain some semblance of
power and authority over the Palestinian people. The 1948 United Nations
General Assembly resolution 194 has consistently reaffirmed
Palestinians right of return and PA has no right to retreat from this
position.
The Article 11 of Resolution 194 reads as follows:
“Resolves that the refugees wishing to
return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbours should be
permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date, and that
compensation should be paid for the property of those choosing not to
return and for loss of or damage to property which, under principles of
international law or in equity, should be made good by the Governments
or authorities responsible; Instructs the Conciliation Commission to
facilitate the repatriation, resettlement and economic and social
rehabilitation of the refugees and the payment of compensation, and to
maintain close relations with the Director of the United Nations Relief
for Palestine Refugees and, through him, with the appropriate organs and
agencies of the United Nations.”
Despite Israel’s annexation of East
Jerusalem in 1967, no country in the world, including the United States
has accepted its legitimacy. Nevertheless, the Zionists are furiously
involved in a campaign of ethnic cleansing and construction of Jewish
settlements to transform the city’s demography. Jews born in US or
Europe could come into occupied Palestine, go to East Jerusalem and
become residents, whereas Palestinians born and raised in East Jerusalem
have their residency rights revoked for marrying someone outside the
city. The PA negotiators have proposed that Israel annex all illegal
Jewish settlements, including Ariel – a town with a population of 18,000
in central West Bank. The international community considers Israeli
settlements in the Golan Heights, West Bank and East Jerusalem illegal
under International Law.
The Palestine Papers also revealed how
closely the United States has been aligned with the Zionists by
demanding PA accept Israel’s position. The Papers also confirm Islamic
resistance movement Hamas’ position that Israel and the US totally
disregard international law and therefore they have no other option but
to continue the arms struggle.
The PA President Mahmoud Abbas has no
authority to make any such concessions. His term as President of
Palestine expired a year ago and he has refused to hold new elections
for fear of Hamas winning the election again. The PA consists of
opportunists made rich and maintained in power by the US and the
Zionists.
