Another Missionary Invasion of Maldives?

The Maldivian Government is trying to recruit over a 100 British Overseas Volunteer teachers through Friends of Maldives, UK. The volunteer teachers for the year 2011 would be selected on the basis of knowledge of other cultures and religions, and a strong willingness to integrate into Maldives culture.

Friends of Maldives founder David Hardingham had once been deported for his alleged Christian missionary activity in the Maldives. Since then, many teachers and evangelists have been deported after parents in many islands filed complaints against them.

Many volunteer aid workers who served in Maldives after the tsunami, handed in Gospels and other books written in Dhivehi to spread their message.

Based on their experiences in the past, most locals view the volunteer teachers as missionaries trying to convert young Muslim Maldivians into Christianity.

This news comes at a time in which Pope Benedict XVI is on a state visit to United Kingdom to reconcile the age old differences, and both the Anglican and the Catholic Church is set to work hand in gloves to Baptise non-Christians into their faith.
