The Maldives government spent
about Rf200 million for the SAARC summit out of the Rf231 million budget approved
by the parliament for the preparations.
The press secretary at
President’s office Mohamed Zuhair said Rf150 million was spent for the
construction of the Equatorial Convention Centre in Hithadhoo.
Zuhair noted that the costs decreased
significantly due to the assistance provided by Bangladesh, India, Pakistan,
and China.
Some road building projects still remains to be completed in Hithadhoo and Feydhoo and also harbour work at Gan still continues to allow large cargo ships to anchor on the island.
